Powder River Energy Corporation - Conservation Loan Program

Powder River Energy Corporation residential and small business customers interested in making efficiency improvements to a building in the service area may be eligible to participate in the Conservation Loan Program. A typical Conservation Loan has a zero percent interest rate, will be paid back over a term of 36 months, and has a maximum loan amount of $2500 per member per calendar year. Powder River assesses an application fee of 4% of the loan amount requested. An energy conservation seminar must be attended before loan funds may be distributed.

There are a wide variety of systems eligible for Conservation Loan approval including Energy Star certified appliances, water heaters, air-source heat pumps, interior lighting, insulation, photovoltaics, small hydroelectric systems, and geothermal heat pumps. A Powder River loan is an excellent way to purchase one of these renewable energy systems or defray costs associated with installation of one. For example, a geothermal heat pump is one of the best power managers available for homeowners, but can be expensive depending upon the type of earthwork required for installation. A Powder River Conservation Loan will help customers manage their finances for geothermal heat pump installation, and many will be able to pay back the loan from the accrued energy savings.

For more information on a Powder River Conservation Loan, contact the Powder River Energy Corporation customer service department or visit the program web site.

Black Hills Power - Customer Rebate Program

A geothermal heat pump is an excellent way to cut electric consumption and save money over the life of a home. A typical geothermal heat pump installation can last for decades, requiring only minimal service every year. That being said, a geothermal heat pump is not the cheapest HVAC system up front, even if it does end up being the most cost effective over the long term. Now, Black Hills Power customers can participate in the Customer Rebate Program to get money back for investing in an energy efficient system like a geothermal heat pump.

As part of a broader conservation initiative, Black Hills Power offers customers cash rebates whenever they purchase and install an approved renewable energy of high efficiency system. Currently, they will pay rebates for an approved air-source heat pump, high efficiency electric water heater, geothermal heat pump, or demand control unit installation. Customers who apply for rebates must demonstrate the new equipment meets rebate program standards. Typically, this can be accomplished by including proof of purchase and manufacturer specifications with their rebate application.

For more information and additional program details, contact the Black Hills Power customer service department or visit the company web site.

Carbon Power & Light - Residential & Commercial Energy Efficiency Rebate

In partnership with Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Carbon Power and Light is offering its customers rebate whenever they improve the efficiency of their home or business. There are a number of steps customers can take to make such modifications, and rebates can be paid for both equipment purchase and installation or building improvements. Currently, the approved list includes air-source heat pumps, high efficiency water heaters, motors, terminal units, resistive heat units, and geothermal heat pumps. Rebate amounts vary depending upon the system and its efficiency. Carbon Power & Light reserves the right to cancel the rebate program at any time. All program standards must be met prior to any rebate payment.

Under current program terms, some of the best rewards are issued for new HVAC systems installed in a residential home or area small business. A new air-source heat pump that meets program specifications can receive between $125 and $150 in rebates per operating ton. Meanwhile, a geothermal heat pump is eligible for $150 per operating ton. Due to the savings air-source and geothermal heat pump owners typically get back, these rebate rewards are a value added incentive.

Cheyenne Light, Fuel & Power - Residential Energy Efficiency Rebate

In the face of rising oil costs, natural gas is becoming a more and more affordable fuel source for a variety of industrial and commercial needs. Of course, it’s always been a good way to heat a home through a cold winter and the rebate program from Cheyenne Light, Fuel and Power makes it even more so. Cheyenne residential gas customers can take advantage of a variety of incentives whenever they use natural gas to keep their homes warm or to heat water for household use. They can even receive rebates when they build or modify their homes to be more efficient overall. Currently, Cheyenne will pay rebates for natural gas water heaters, gas boilers, and gas furnaces that meet program requirements as well as new insulation, duct sealing, and filtration controls. Newly constructed homes built to specifications are also eligible.

For example, a customer who installs a gas furnace that meets Cheyenne AFUE standards could receive up to $400 in rebates. To qualify, the gas furnace must meet Energy Star standards and have 92% or greater AFUE. AFUE is an industry standard for measuring how well as gas furnace or gas boiler burns its fuel. The higher AFUE, the more fuel saved, the better the efficiency.

Lower Valley Energy - Residential Energy Efficiency Rebate

The Lower Valley Energy rebate program allows residential customers to get added value from the purchase and installation of approved energy efficiency systems or home improvements. Rebates may be awarded for certain residential weatherization measures or installation of Energy Star certified appliances, geothermal heat pumps, or high efficiency water heaters. To qualify, all new equipment must meet Lower Valley Energy rebate program requirements and proof of purchase must be included in the customer’s rebate application. Lower Valley Energy will then inspect the installation or improvement and issue the rebate.

For example, a Lower Valley Energy customer who installs an approved geothermal heat pump system in their residential home may be qualified for a $2500 rebate. Meanwhile, a high efficiency water heater could get between $15 and $50 in rebates. The disparity in rebate value is due to the greater efficiency of a geothermal heat pump in terms of overall power management. A geothermal heat pump operates at over 100% efficiency, something the best electric water heater cannot do. This results in significant savings over time, and, accordingly, is awarded a larger rebate.

For more information on the Lower Valley Energy rebate program, contact the company directly or visit the web site.

Lower Valley Energy - Solar Rebate Program

Increasingly, solar hot water heaters are becoming a popular choice for homeowners interested in saving energy and money. Unlike a traditional electric hot water heater, a solar hot water heater can produce free hot water on sunny days, since it can get its power from solar energy. A traditional electric hot water heater must constantly drain electricity to keep water hot, and alleviating this need, even only on sunny days, can result in serious energy savings over time. In short, solar hot water heaters are one way a household can cut their electric bill and reduce their carbon emissions without having to sacrifice quality of life.

In fact, solar hot water heaters are such a valuable technology that Lower Valley Energy customers may be eligible for a rebate whenever they purchase and install one. Provided the solar hot water heater meets program requirements, a Lower Valley Energy customers could get a $400 rebate to help defray upfront costs. The system must be in compliance with program guidelines and installed to code. Only Lower Valley Energy may apply, the unit must be installed in the service territory, and necessary documentation must be provided to Lower Valley Energy. Contact the company for additional rebate information.

Questar Gas - Therm Wise Program

Through the Therm Wise Program, Questar Gas provides rebates to customers who invest in renewable energy and high efficiency technology like high AFUE gas furnaces or boilers, programmable thermostats, gas water heaters, new insulation, or Energy Star certified appliances. To qualify, the new system must use natural gas as a fuel source, meet minimum program efficiency requirements, and be installed in the service area in the home of a Questar Gas customer. Customers may also be eligible for a home energy audit. Additional details are available on the web site.

For example, under current Therm Wise Program guidelines, a new gas furnace that is 90% AFUE rated or higher can get a $300 rebate. A gas furnace with that AFUE percentage will burn fuel much more efficiently than previous generation systems, reducing the amount needed for winter heating and save money. Investing in all high AFUE technology for your home is a good way to decrease household carbon emissions, cut costs, and get a rebate from programs like Therm Wise.
